On the 7th of July, Julie and I attended a meeting at the Pub at Aratula. This was the third in a series of meetings that started after last years Memorial Ride. The concept of the meetings is for members of the South East Queensland Branches to get together and claim dates for important events and discuss the possibilities of combined events. The meeting is normally for Presidents and Secretaries however this last meeting involved organisation of a ride and as Twiggy was already committed to and event he asked if I could attend and report back.
The meeting was well attended with members from several branches throughout the region represented and I was glad that Northern Gateway can now be counted in that group. A few dates were claimed for certain events and they will be kept free with more info to follow in upcoming ride calendars.
The main discussion point for this meeting was a combined ride (poker/dice run) to raise funds for the Ulysses Memorial Park. It was decided by the members present that All funds raised by the poker/dice run will be used to improve the grounds at the Memorial Park, and that all funds raised by the raffles on the day will be donated to UCARF. The cost of the ride will be $10.00 per head, with all Branches holding their own independent rides to meet at Aratula Pub at around 12:30 for a sausage sizzle (to be run by one of the local charities and organised by the pub).
Our committee have kindly ratified this and you will see on the calendar that we are having a dice run on that day. Entry will be $10.00 per player with all proceeds to go to the Memorial Park and a small prize for first and last.
The meeting also agreed to meet again in 3 months and try to continue an ongoing fellowship between Branches within the region. I am sure that Northern Gateway committee on our behalf will continue to be a part of this exciting initiative.
